Yoga Retreat with Philipa Wade
Granada, 14 - 19 September 2018
Granada, Spiritual Magnetism.
Leave me in Granada in the middle of paradise where my soul wells with poetry
Give him an offering, my lady, for there is no greater tragedy than that of the blind man in Granada.
So goes the famous quote, allegedly said to a woman passing a beggar in the street in Granada. The beauty and truth of the phrase encapsulates everything about this majestic city. The city offers the visitor a dizzying variety of attractions, from it’s fun-filled streets (this is a large student city) to its reputation as a Flamenco hotspot, Granada offers both history and modernity. Opposite the Alhambra is the Albaycín – the old Muslim quarter of the city, and with its steep banks, winding streets and sharp turns, an air of the past still lingers here.
Our venue is near the capital of the province of the same name and the wider region holds a number of attractions. From the mystical Alpujarras mountains, to the Sierra Nevada and down to the Costa Tropical centred on Salobreña, a visitor to this province can ski in the morning, have lunch in the city, then sit on the beach in the afternoon. Not a bad claim to fame.
While on your yoga retreat, spend an evening in old town for a night out where you can experience the nightlife of Spain, nibbling tapas and get the chance to see local flamenco dancers. Stroll around the Albaycín, exploring the old Muslim quarter opposite the Alhambra and stop at the Arab tea house Abaco Te for a journey in time with a tea and sweet local pastry, 1400AD style. Afterwards head up to the Mirador San Nicolás for a spectacular view of the Alhambra and the Sierra Nevada. Visit the Cathedral and Royal Chapel – resting place of the famous Catholic kings Fernando and Isabel. Take your time to explore the province visiting the Costa Tropical for the beach. Practice a variety of Yoga styles with different instructors immersed in the peace of Spiritual Magnetism of Granada
This year I experienced the most wonderful yoga retreat at the Lucia Yoga Centre in Andalucia and I will be teaching a 5 night retreat there in September 2018. Situated in the Sierra Elvira mountain range, this is an opportunity to immerse yourself in the peace and tranquillity of this stunning countryside. In addition to regular yoga practice this short break includes cultural activities in the area. The Lucia venue is within easy reach of the city of Granada and Malaga airport and our group will have full access to the yoga shala for the whole of the retreat.
What isn’t included:
- Flights and insurance. Flights depart from Liverpool to Malaga and are very reasonably priced. The transfer time from Malaga to the venue is 90/120 minutes. There are also flights from Manchester to Granada, which are more expensive, however the transfer time to the venue is shorter, 30 minutes.
- Transfers from the arrival airport to the venue. This can be arranged for you at an additional cost of about 40 euro per person. Or you can travel independently on the public bus at reduced cost.
- A non-refundable deposit of £75 will secure your place. Full payment due 30/6/18.
The retreat is located at Pinos Puente, Granada, Spain. This is 20 min from Granada airport, 2h 30 min from Sevilla airport, or 1h 15 min from Malaga airport.
If you wish to have an airport transfer from Malaga we are happy to organize for you both pick up and drop off in time for your flight after the retreat. You can also get to the house via train or bus to Granada. Both, buses and trains, leave Malaga or Sevilla city regularly throughout the day and we can come pick you up from the bus/train station in Granada.

ABOUT THE TEACHER
My name is Philippa Wade and I am a British Wheel of Yoga qualified teacher. I teach Hatha Yoga in Chester, UK. I have been practising yoga for 20+ years and teaching professionally since 2011.
I’m motivated to inspire people to practice yoga regardless of age, ability and physical condition, promote the benefits of yoga, and make it accessible to everyone.
My Teaching Style and Experience
My teaching encompasses a mix of hatha and iyengar practice that allow you to develop strength, flexibility and stamina. I place an emphasis on physical alignment during posture work to ensure you work safely, and this provides a firm foundation from which to stretch and lengthen. My teaching places an emphasis on developing awareness of the breath and how to use your breath to deepen practice. I adapt my teaching to accommodate differences in ability offering modifications so that everyone can take part. I teach several UK based retreats each year. A typical retreat includes yoga sessions, meditation and relaxation, offering the opportunity to relax and take part in guided meditations in addition to yoga practice. Retreats are suited to all levels including beginners and more experienced yoga students. My style of teaching enables all abilities to take part.
I practised yoga during my corporate career in legal services for 12 years and for a further 15 years whilst in project management in the banking industry. Yoga provided a means of coping with a busy, stressful job that involved UK wide travel and long hours. Now, like my corporate clients, you can also achieve this from yoga. I love teaching yoga and devote much time to improving my understanding of this fascinating practice. I truly believe that by teaching yoga to you, it will change your life, for the better.
