LOCATION & TRAVEL
The Mediterranean Retreat Center is located on Spain’s eastern coast, near Valencia, just one kilometer from the quiet Mareny Blau beach. The venue blends Mediterranean charm and comfort, surrounded by rice fields and orange groves, with easy access to the sea.
While the retreat center is not directly reachable by public transportation, it’s conveniently located 45 minutes from Valencia Airport (VLC) and about 1.5 hours from Alicante Airport (ALC). Group transportation between the retreat center and Valencia Airport is included for all retreat participants.
Arrival
We recommend landing at Valencia Airport (VLC) in the morning or early afternoon before 1:00 p.m.
A group shuttle will depart from Valencia Airport at a pre-set time, ensuring a smooth arrival to the retreat center in time for check-in and the first group dinner.
For those arriving a day earlier in Valencia, we may also be able to organize a pickup from Valencia City Center (Joaquín Sorolla Train Station) at a pre-set time.
Departure
Please plan your return flight for mid-afternoon or later after 2:00 p.m, allowing enough time for the morning class, breakfast, and the group transfer back to the airport and city center.
Travel flexibility
You’re welcome to choose any airline or route that suits you. Just keep the group shuttle schedule in mind to join easily.
Many participants enjoy arriving a day early or staying an extra night in Valencia City to explore its lively old town and seaside promenade. If that’s your plan, you can book your own hotel and meet us directly at the shuttle meeting point at Valencia Airport or city center on arrival day.
If you’d prefer to organize your own transport, we’re happy to help coordinate taxis or private transfers from Valencia or Alicante.
LEENA
Who am I? I am this moment, this time, this space, continually transforming and evolving.
My Yoga journey began in childhood, practicing with my family and wider community, embracing yoga’s holistic essence beyond asanas, yoga is meditation, pranayama, and self-discovery.
I have trained with world-renowned teachers, integrating heart-centered teaching that honours each student’s unique path.
Breathwork and movement combined with art making and outdoor therapy, planting and growing, creating art in nature with nature are all part of my offerings. I honour the seasons, the moon cycle and various traditions passed down to me from my elders and from nature honouring cultures from across our beautiful planet.
I crave opportunities to encourage a connection between the body and the natural world. As a nature lover I have incorporated these elements into my own life for as long as I can remember.
Working as an art psychotherapist since 2015, within a variety of educational settings and also within specialist inpatient mental health services, has allowed me to encourage these connections in other people. I have direct experience of working alongside other creative practitioners to create a safe and welcoming therapeutic environment for the most vulnerable people within our community, providing a space to heal and nurture.
Indian tribal dance and connecting to the divine feminine has been an integral part of my life. Dancing with my family and members of my community during festivals and other celebrations is part of my cultural practice, even in our homes and gardens during rituals and ceremonies. Understanding and living this experience I have gained even more insight about how our bodies needs to move and flow with the rhythm of the self, individually and as a collective.
I weave creativity, soulfulness into my classes offering a truly holistic approach to the practice. I LOVE my work.
MATT
I started practicing hatha yoga in the US in 2001 when a back injury at work got the better of me. Moving on to more demanding hot vinyasa and Bikram classes as I progressed in my practice. I soon realized the benefits of a good practice not just for rehabilitation but to strengthen and protect against future injury, as well as the improvements to mood and overall mental health.
By 2008 my practice had got a little stale. I had been travelling a lot for work and I was feeling a little too reliant on others. I missed a sense of ownership of my practice. After returning from travelling I soon found myself in a friends Ashtanga vinyasa class and was hooked from the first class. It all made sense to me, the set sequence of poses and movements, the encouragement to understand the nuances of the practice. I found it gave me the tools to take with me regardless of the setting and was inspiring.
After returning to the UK in 2011 at the slight behest of my teacher, and requests from others, I began to teach ashtanga vinyasa classes.
I completed my 200hr RYT with Yogi Kamal Singh at Tattvva yoga in beautiful Rishikesh, on the banks of the river Ganges, at the base of the Himalayas in India, and am eternally grateful for their teachings and encouragement.
I have also had the privilege of practicing and studying with many great teachers, from Manju Jois, Kino McGregor, David swenson, and Tim Miller to name a few.
Along with acupuncture, I personally found great benefits to acupuncture for my back injury, as well as helping with my anxiety and freeing me from years of migraine headaches. So, I gained my degree in TCM acupuncture in 2018. I find it to be a great complement to a yoga practice, especially in support of musculoskeletal ailments that arise as ones practice develops. Also supporting overall stress, anxiety and the multitude of hurdles that can be faced as people begin to work on themselves on a deeper level.
I currently teach a range of classes. Although ashtanga forms the core of my classes and teaching, I also teach hot vinyasa and yin. I believe in meeting the students where they are, and introducing movements and poses when they are ready. Encouraging people to listen to their body and their breath for inner guidance for their individual needs.
Overall i feel blessed in life to have found this path, of which I feel I belong, and look forward to learn, develop, and connect with like minded people.
